Women Travel Latin America interviewed Alone Together contributing author Megan Benay about her travels through the region and what inspires her to share her stories.
What inspired you to write your story for Alone Together?
My inspiration for writing my story for Alone Together came from all of the remarkable women I met, from across the globe, during my solo-travels in Latin America.
Why do you think women should travel Latin America?
I believe women (and everyone else for that matter) owe it to themselves to expand their world view by spending time outside of their home country, and I can’t imagine a more beautiful, unique, cultural and historically rich place to do that than Latin America.
What is your best memory of your Latin America adventure, and why?
That’s so hard to pick, but my girlfriends from work and I spent a weekend in Pucón, Chile, and it was pretty spectacular. We hadn’t seen each other in two months and I don’t think we stopped laughing the entire time.
Describe the region in three words.
Spectacular, limitless, bread-loving 🙂
What advice would you give to a woman considering a trip to Latin America?
Skip the touristy spots – give yourself permission to go off the beaten path that most travelers take. Also, be respectful and remember that you are only a visitor, there to learn about (not to change) the culture.
